As Senior Director of the Office of Gift Planning, Greg Dugard oversees Notre Dame’s team of field fundraisers for gift planning, the negotiation and acceptance of all planned gifts, including traditional planned giving vehicles and gifts of privately held businesses, real estate, restricted securities and other non-cash assets as well as estate, trust and annuity administration. Additionally, Greg oversees the Badin Guild, one of Notre Dame’s recognition societies, comprised of alumni, parents, and friends who, through thoughtful estate planning, deferred giving, and other forms of planned giving, ensure that resources will be available to support Notre Dame far into the future. Prior to joining Notre Dame in 2006, Greg worked with Honeywell International, Inc. most recently as a director in the Mergers & Acquisitions group. Prior to Honeywell, Greg practiced for Winston & Strawn LLP, an international law firm.  His practice areas were mergers & acquisitions, private equity and public securities law. Greg graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School and from Saint Louis University with a Bachelors of Science in Finance. Greg and his wife, Mindi, have two children: Ally and Bella.

As a Director of Gift Planning for the West region of the United States, Patrick Brennan works with Notre Dame alumni, parents, and friends having an interest in deferred and structured contributions to Notre Dame, including estate and trust gifts, gifts of real estate, and gifts of privately held business interests. Patrick graduated from the Notre Dame Law School in 1998 and immediately joined the Office of Gift Planning.

As the Director of Gift Planning Administration, John Butkovich is responsible for managing all administration matters related to: (1) estates when the University is a beneficiary; and (2) split interest gifts (trusts and annuities) when the University is a beneficiary.  In addition, John provides technical and other support for Gift Planning Directors and participates in the stewardship of our Badin Guild members.  John also manages the University’s Charitable Gift Annuity program.  John practiced law in Cincinnati for 25 years, specializing in workers' compensation law with the firm of Butkovich, Schimpf, Schimpf & Ginocchio, before returning to his alma mater to join the Office of Gift Planning.  He is a former Executive Director and current board member of Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County.  John graduated from Notre Dame in 1963, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.  He earned his law degree from Chase College of Law in Cincinnati in 1968.  John and his wife Mary Ann, a 1964 graduate of Saint Mary’s College, have three children, Joe ’88, Annie ’91, and Andy.

As a Director of Gift Planning for the East and Southeast regions of the United States, Chris DeTrempe works with Notre Dame alumni, parents, and friends having an interest in deferred and structured contributions to Notre Dame, including estate and trust gifts, gifts of real estate, and gifts of privately held business interests. Chris joined the Office of Gift Planning in January 2009 after having served as the Associate Director of Notre Dame’s Executive MBA program for both Chicago and South Bend. Prior to joining Notre Dame in 2006, Chris was Director of Operations for McDonald’s Corporation in Dallas, Texas, where he had also served as a Director of Finance. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Notre Dame in 1986 and began his career with a national public accounting firm, Coopers & Lybrand. Following graduation he earned his CPA, and later earned a master’s degree in business administration from Texas Christian University in 2003. Chris and his wife, Corinne, a graduate of Saint Mary’s College, have five children.

As a Director of Gift Planning for the Midwest region of the United States, Ken Hendricks works with Notre Dame alumni, parents, and friends having an interest in deferred and structured contributions to Notre Dame, including estate and trust gifts, gifts of real estate, and gifts of privately held business interests. Prior to his return to Notre Dame in 1995 as an assistant director of planned giving, Ken practiced with the tax department of the South Bend office of Coopers & Lybrand, a leading national public accounting firm. From 1988 through June 1995 at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), Ken focused on tax planning and compliance, primarily for individuals.  From 1984 to 1987, he worked in the tax department of the Chicago office of Grant Thornton, another national public accounting firm.  Ken is a “Double Domer”—he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Notre Dame in 1981, and received his law degree from the Notre Dame Law School in 1984. Ken and his wife, Lori, have four children. The oldest is a 2010 graduate of Notre Dame, and the second-oldest is a member of the Class of 2013.

Rich Naponelli

As a Director of Gift Planning for the West region of the United States, Rich Naponelli works with Notre Dame alumni, parents, and friends having an interest in deferred and structured contributions to Notre Dame—including estate and trust gifts, gifts of real estate, and gifts of privately held business interests. Prior to joining the Office of Gift Planning in August 2015, Rich worked as an attorney for almost eight years—most recently in the Chicago office of Perkins Coie LLP, where his practice focused primarily on tax and estate planning. Prior to working at Perkins Coie LLP, Rich was an associate attorney at Winston & Strawn LLP and Madden, Jiganti, Moore & Sinars LLP. Rich graduated from Notre Dame in 2003, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He earned a master of science in accountancy from Notre Dame in 2004, before earning a law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2007. Rich and his wife Jennifer have two children.

As a Director of Gift Planning for the Northeast region of the United States, Rob Ortiz works with Notre Dame alumni, parents, and friends having an interest in deferred and structured contributions to Notre Dame, including estate and trust gifts, gifts of real estate, and gifts of privately held business interests. Rob joined the Office of Gift Planning in October 2013 after having served as the Academic Advancement Director for the Notre Dame Law School. Prior to joining Notre Dame in 2011, Rob was a Partner of the law firm of Florio, Perrucci, Steinhardt and Fader in New Jersey. In 2008, the New Jersey Law Journal selected Rob to its list of “40 under 40.” According to the Law Journal’s publisher, the 40 lawyers on the list are people under the age of 40 who are “worth watching not only for what they have achieved so far in their careers but more so for the potential they show to be among the leaders of the New Jersey bar in the next decade.” Rob graduated from Notre Dame in 1994, earning a bachelor’s degree in government and international relations with an emphasis in politics, philosophy and economics. He earned his law degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1997. Rob and his wife Leah, also a 1994 graduate of Notre Dame, have four children.

As a Director of Gift Planning for the Midwest region of the United States, Michelle Shakour works with Notre Dame alumni, parents, and friends having an interest in deferred and structured contributions to Notre Dame, including estate and trust gifts, gifts of real estate, and gifts of privately held business interests. Michelle has served as a Director in the Office of Gift Planning since 1993.  She holds four degrees:  a bachelor of arts from Saint Mary’s College, a master of arts from Middlebury College in Vermont, a master of science from Indiana University, and a law degree from Notre Dame. Michelle and her husband, Gabriel, have five children (Maria ’06, Christina ’09, Katherine ’09, Caroline ’11, and Michael ’15).
